Robinson Clubs & Activities

 

 

 

ADVISORY PERIOD

Our Advisory Period runs from 8:15–8:30 am. It is designed to give our students an opportunity to discuss important topics, study for tests, and do homework. It is also a chance for the teachers to get to know a small group of students a little bit better than they might if they only have the students for the academic class period.

BOYS ATHLETICS

Football, basketball, track and tennis are the sports available to 7th and 8th grade boys at Robinson. Students interested in any of these sports should see Coach Zastoupil in the gym area. Contact Coach Zastoupil.

CHEERLEADING

Cheerleading is an exciting opportunity for anyone interested in learning cheerleading skills and having fun. Cheerleaders support all school activities, lead pep rallies, and cheer at sporting events. Cheerleading consists of dance, jumps, leadership and etiquette. It is open to all 8th graders. DESTINATION IMAGINATION

Destination ImagiNation creates problem solving challenges so that teams of students can work together to overcome a unique set of obstacles.

DRAMA CLUB

The Drama Club is open to all 6th, 7th and 8th graders who are interested in all aspects of theater. Throughout the year we will attend other school plays as well as produce our own.  Students may participate by acting or using their backstage skills. Meetings are not on a regular basis but will be called when needed. Contact Ms. Aspden.

GEOGRAPHY BEE

A Geography Bee is held annually during the month of January and is open to all students. The school winner of this competition takes a written test to determine if he/she qualifies for the state competition. Contact Mr. Whitten.

GIRLS ATHLETICS

Volleyball, basketball, track and tennis are the sports offered for 7th and 8th grade girls. The basic goal is to help make our school community a positive environment for everyone.  Students interested in any of these should check with Coach Zastoupil in the gym area.

INTERNATIONAL FRIENDSHIP CLUB

Founded with the intention of developing understanding of different cultures in addition to participating in community service activities. Contact Sheila Alvarez.

MATH CLUB/MATH COUNTS

The Robinson Math Club is open to all students. Members will participate in math games and more challenging problem-solving competitions. MathCounts, a nationally sponsored event, is one of the competitions enjoyed by this club. Robinson students have previously advanced to the state MathCounts contest.  Contact Mrs. Dabbs.

MOCK TRIAL

Students prepare to participate in a mock trial competition, with the assistance of local lawyers and judges. Ms. Milinsky is the coach.

NATIONAL JUNIOR HONOR SOCIETY

NJHS is an honorary organization made up of 8th graders who are selected for membership in the spring of their 7th grade year. Membership is based on grades and applications.  We will be doing service projects for our school and community throughout the year. Qualifications for membership in NJHS will be posted in the PTA newsletter. ContactMrs. Spray.

PEER ASSISTANCE AND LEADERSHIP (PAL)

This course provides selected students an opportunity to work in a helping role with other students and teachers as new-student guides, tutors, and PAL friends. They will also be involved in group volunteer projects in the school and community. PAL students will receive training in areas such as communication, listening, group dynamics, tutoring, conflict mediation, and other means of helping peers and younger students with issues of concern to them. PIZZAZZ

Pizzazz is a small Jazz/POP ensemble of 7th and 8th grade girls.  Students must be enrolled in a choir class and audition in August for this group.  Contact Ms. Ahrens.

POPS

Pops Orchestra students learn and perform a variety of "popular" music from Oldies, Broadway, Disney, and show tunes. Contact Ms. Havenstrite.

RAZAMATAZZ

A small pop/vocal jazz ensemble made up of 7th and 8th grade choir students. Auditions are held in August and you must be enrolled in choir to participate.  Contact Ms. Ahrens.

SCIENCE FAIR

The Science Fair is held each year during the month of February. This is an extension of the science program and is open to any student on a voluntary basis. The goal of the science fair is to provide students the opportunity to showcase their knowledge of scientific inquiry processes and problem solving.  Contact Mrs. Kutscherousky.

SPEECH COMPETITION

Any student at Robinson may participate in district speech tournaments. All meetings will be announced. Contact Ms. Aspden.

SPELLING BEE

The Spelling Bee is a competition that is held once per year and identifies the best spellers at Robinson. Contact Ms. Weathers.

STUDENT COUNCIL

Student council is an organization for all middle school students who have an interest in planning activities that benefit the student body as well as the community. Organizational meetings are held weekly. Contact Ms. Kincaid.

Whiz Quiz

Whiz Quiz is an academic competition for 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. Teams compete in modified college bowl whiz quiz format, challenging students' knowledge on topics such as history, math, science, art, literature, world events, entertainment, politics, and current events. Five-member teams compete in a district-wide competition, second semester.  Watch for announcements. Anyone who consistently attends the practices is on the team. As we practice, students who accumulate the most points from answering questions correctly will make the travel team to participate in the district competition. This club will meet on Wednesday afternoons beginning in October. Contact Ms. Milinsky.
